The W.O.W. Factor
Simply put, the W.O.W. factor are the three elements that I have identified that are vital in the development of any server, who wishes to elevate himself or herself to the level of a "server-extraordinaire," i.e. a server of superior standing. A server-extraordinaire must be the embodiment of all of these elements at all times during and away from service, and even when off-duty and in the public eye. A server-extraordinaire understands that s/he is a representative of his/her establishment, and that every person, whom s/he meets, is a potential guest, who should immediately experience the W.O.W. factor even in passing.
Currently, I am in the process of writing my book, W.O.W. Factor! The Journey of a Server-Extraordinaire, about my life and experiences in the restaurant industry; and its accompanying skills-training manual for restaurant owners/managers, trainers, servers and other waitstaff personnel; W.O.W. Factor! What it takes to be a Server- Extraordinaire. Thus, I will only post to my site some general, but very useful, information.
So, Remember these Two Points!
1. W.O.W. is: Welcoming – Outstanding - Wondrous
2. Being Outstanding requires S.P.E.E.D. (This one, however, I am keeping secret until the book and manual are published... but you can always guess!)
"We ordered drinks, which came quickly and were outstanding, DH had a dirty martini which he said was very good, and I had one of their specialty drinks, The Bohemian, which was so good, I had another! It was similar to a bellini, a mixture of Absolut Peach, berry cordial and champagne, outstanding! Our server, Michelle, was very knowledgeable, and made excellent recommendations."
